Irish Paintings
The purpose of this Blog is to serve as an extra online gallery for a selection of my recent paintings, and work in progress, plus information about upcoming events and exhibitions I am planning for the next number of years.
For the moment I am posting a few of my older paintings and a few words on each piece so it is more of an online record of paintings I did from 2003 - 2006.
Painted on a black background with a few square brushes of different sizes.

Title: Eany River Walkway. 18" x 12"
Title: Murvagh Cloudscape. 28" x 20"
Murvagh beach is close to my home in South Donegal. I have done many paintings of this area, this particular image I use on my cards.
I paint a large number of atmospheric type paintings whose subject are usually clouds at dusk.
Title: Low Tide, Creevy. 18"x 10"
Creevy is a place in South Donegal between Ballyshannon and Rossnowlagh, I have done a series of rock pool paintings from here over period of 3 years. I started painting rock pools after accidently achieving the effect of submerged rocks in a pool after painting over an image I had done the day before, and then turning it upside down.
Title: Bunbeg. 24" x 16"
Bunbeg is an area in the Gaeltacht area (Irish speaking) of North West Donegal. It is a really beautiful place with panoramic views and unusual light. It neighbours a townland called Bloody Foreland where there are spectacular sunsets.
This painting depicts a mass of dramatic clouds approaching from the Atlantic This painting started as an experiment with a palette knife working Naples Yellow over a background of Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Red and Vandyke Brown, I found the colour combinations to work really well and finished a larger scale version of this painting sometime after. I did a series of 10 Bunbeg paintings over the last 2 years.
Title: Maghery. 22" x 14"
Maghery is a remote and also very spectacular part of Donegal. It is situated on the coast not far from Dungloe in the West of the county. This painting is, again, of clouds in the evening time over the Atlantic from a cliff at Maghery, painted with washes of tonal colours. The contrasting light that I prefer to try to achieve doesnt occur during broad daylight, I find evening time more favorable and this type of moody light appears alot in my work.
